The HVS booth in action

Education and entertainment go hand in hand. This was the atmosphere at last weeks Social Justice Fair, presented by the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. The day was filled with creative ideas, music, movies and aspirations for a better world.

Many of the displays on show, held in the convention hall at Liuna Station, were comprised of student projects and advocacy groups. Throughout the rows of tables, including HVS' own, a sense of progress emulated the atmosphere. It was altruistic to see, people, young and experienced, working together with a positive embrace.

Student trustee Lauren Millar, MC of the event, acknowledged the importance of local and international collaboration. During the ceremonies, Lauren was presented with a letter from the United Nations: thanking all those involved in last year's Social Justice Fair.

Amidst the celebrations, many live performances and presentations took place, each with a strong message for teamwork, creativity and trust. Hamilton mayor, Fred Eisenberger, made his presence felt with award presentations and a brief speech encouraging students to continue their role for a better future.

At last, the HVS booth was present, educating everyone about the role their diets play on environmental sustainability. For many, most are shocked to find how their daily meal choices can have such a negative impact on ecology. With education as a medium, positive intentions truly become incisive. This years Social Justice Fair was a great success, adding to the momentum created from last year's inaugural event.
