Veggie Super Friends

Veggie Super Friends is a collaborative affair of friends, food, music and entertainment. This is the second annual Super Friends event. Last year’s was a great success. Organized by Dylan Powell, radio show host of Vegan Police Radio, the event ensures a great atmosphere for vegans and vegetarians. The event features live music, a screening of the movie “The Cove,” guest lectures, bake sales and more. Tickets are $10 at the door. More event details can be found on the events facebook page.

Movie Night

Cost: Free

Join us for our monthly movie nights at the Sky Dragon Center. The event is free to attend with vegan and vegetarian entrees, snacks, and deserts available for purchase from the Bread & Roses cafe. Includes coffee, tea, and other refreshments.

This month’s viewing is an uplifting story about a young man growing up in Africa as a disabled, who rides across his country on a bicycle with only one leg to promote equality for handicap and disabled people. Emmanuelle’s Gift, with commentary from legendary day show host, Oprah Winfrey, describes the amazing journey of one man fighting for justice and human rights while overcoming countless struggles and adversity. The movie has won numerous awards and is certainly an aspiring story about selfless accomplishment. Join us on our movie night at the Sky Dragon Center for entertainment, in like dieted company with host Beau Caza, founder of the Hamilton Vegetarian Society.

Bake Sale


When: Thursday, January 21st

Cost: Reasonable!

The Hamilton Vegetarian Society will be hosting a bake sale in the student center at McMaster University to raise funds for future community initiatives and public outreach. The bake sale will feature our signature vegan and gluten free, almond and buckwheat flour cookies in three varieties: double chocolate, almond butter, and raisin pumpkin spice. Gluten free, vegan muffins will also be available, made with millet and buckwheat flour, cinnamon, orange zest, apple and chocolate chip.

All of our baked goods are vegan and gluten free. We abstain from using refined sugars by using only natural sweeteners such as Agave Nectar and/or Date Paste. Our baked goods are cholesterol free and are suitable for diabetics of both types. All of the ingredients are 100% natural and preservative free and our flours are made from scratch!

HVS Dinner Party at Affinity

Join us for our first Dine & Dinner Night at the Affinity, Hamilton’s only oriental vegetarian cuisine. Our dinner party will be accommodated in their private banquet hall with full service and an open menu. There are a limited number of seats that can be facilitated, so be sure to RSVP as soon as possible. Vegan and gluten free options are available. Affinity is also a licensed LLBO. RSVP today and be sure to arrive with an appetite.

The Hamilton Vegetarian Society is organizing its first yoga class to be held at Delasol Yoga Studios. Everyone is welcome. Yoga is an extremely beneficial practice that increases strength, stamina, and balance with low impact exercise. Yoga helps tone muscles while promoting a high metabolism and healthy weight distribution. In addition to the physical benefits, yoga also aids in releasing stress, anxiety, and improves mental alertness. RSVP to reserve a spot.

Join the HVS for family games at the Freeway Cafe on Thursday, January 27th. The event is open to every one of all ages, including children. A variety of board games will be available, but we do encourage participants to bring their own games to use or to share with others. Game night offers a unique opportunity to acquaint with one another through fun and play. Drinks and snacks are offered at cost from the Freeway Cafe’s bistro including free trade coffee, tea, and baked goods.

The Veggies In Motion Club are pleased to announce its first rock climbing event on Saturday, February 6th, at Gravity, located near the Hamilton Spectator building. The facility will be closed to the public, allowing the days’ participants to enjoy the walls all to themselves. The indoor facility sports a variety of difficulty levels and is suitable for beginners. The first hour will include a lesson and will go over safety and climbing techniques. The remainder of the time will be open for climbing and scaling at your own pace.
